Why otters?

I chose this animal because they are adorable. At first glance they look like friendly creatures you would want to cuddle, but they are known to have an aggressive side if provoked. They are related to wolverines and have a POWERFUL bite at their disposal, which I thought was very interesting. I've loved otters since I was little after visiting the Georgia Aquarium. They would cuddle eachother and flow through the water without a care in the world. Since then, I have wanted one as a pet.

Interesting Facts

Southern sea otters live in California along the coastline in shallow waters ranging from San Mateo county to Santa Barbara county! This species was previously hunted near extinction, and so today the Southern Sea Otter is listed as THREATENED under the Endangered Species Act.

How to convert a Hexadecimal number

• Hexidecimal number uses digits 0-9A-F to represent an array of numbers
• A represents 10, B represents 11 and so on
• If you are given the number "4523", in order to convert to a hexidecimal you must do some math

1. First divide the number by 16 (so, 4523/16) which =282.6875
2. so the integer division result is 282
3. Subtract 282 from 282.6875, and multiply the result by 16 (so, .6875x16) which equals 11, or B in hexidecimal form
4. now repeat process starting now by dividing 282 by 16 (equals 17.65), then .65x16 (equals A)
5. Repeat this process until the value on the left side is 0
6. So the hexidecimal equivalent of 4523 is 11AB

How to convert a hexadecimal to a decimal

• A hexidecimal uses digits 0-9A-F where A=10, b=11 and so on
• If you are given the hexadecimal AD3, it is important to know what A and D are in order to know what decimal number it is
• Remember, A=10, and D=13
• Once you know what each digit is equivalent to you can then find the decimal equivalent by multiplying each digit with 16 power of digit location

1. So, (Ax16 to the 2nd power) or 10x16^2 which equals 2,560
2. Then, (Dx16 to the 1st power) or 13x16^1 which equals 208
3. Finally, (3x16 to the 0 power) or 3x1 which equals 3
4. Once you have these 3 values you add them together (2,560+208+3=)...
5. ...to find your decimal equivalent, which equals 2,771
